The journey of Mr. Zippy

For those of you wondering, my car (nicknamed Mr. Zippy) finally made it to Minneapolis this week! Apparently it takes 18 days to ship a car 1200 miles. ?!?!? They took my car away with all our stuff on May 24 and for the following 2 weeks we got calls asking where our car was, people asking if now was a good time for them to come pick it up, etc. Basically it was mass confusion as to where my car was. In the meantime, poor Mr. Zippy had been sitting at some warehouse in Houston waiting for departure! It was supposed to have arrived in the timeframe when we did, but it hadn't even left Houston yet. We kept getting call after call delaying the arrival date. So earlier this week, Michael and I were sitting up to the coffee table eating dinner when I looked at the road outside our window and yelled "MR. ZIPPY!!" It went by on a flat bed truck and had entered the parking lot. Wahoo!! So now we finally have all our stuff with us! (and for those wondering...yes, I am a bit attached to my car and other belongings) :)

Things I've learned so far...

The 2 weeks we have been in Minnesota have taught me many things so far. Here are a few:

1. There are lakes everywhere!
2. Apparently, people like the word "yep!". I say thank you, they say "Yep!" In my interview last week, I was giving my explanation to the question and the manager responds "Yep...yep...yep...". ????
3. When I order a Diet Coke, they refer to it only as "diet". "You want more diet?"
4. It's a small world....we have already encountered a person that works at the nearby florist that grew up in Clear Lake, outside of Houston. Then the Enterprise rental car guy told me he has a cousin that lives in Humble, TX!
5. I've been surprised by how warm it has been this week...highs are in the 90's. It feels so much more comfortable b/c the humidity is low. Although, Monday on the local news they had information on recognizing heat strokes. ;) It is hard to imagine that a place that can get this warm can also get so dreadfully cold!
6. And the biggest thing I have learned so far (b/c I have been told many times)..... is that apparently Michael and I have Texas accents!! :) If they only knew they were the ones that actually talk funny!

3 Years!

Today is our 3 year anniversary! Wow, I can't believe how fast 3 years have gone by! We went out for a nice dinner to a place called Wildfire, they serve steaks and seafood. Mmm! :)

For our anniversary trip this year, we went to Lake Sylvan! Michael's boss has a lake house there and he offered to let us use it for the weekend. He even let us take out his boat for a little while! It was absolutely gorgeous there! Minnesota is known as the Land of 10,000 Lakes...and yeah that is about right. There are lakes EVERYWHERE here! And apparently they are all natural and were caused by glaciers that used to cover this area. (And yes, I'm still freaking out that I'm living in a place that used to be covered by glaciers!!) :)

Welcome to our blog!

I was given this idea by my friend Stephanie who created a blog for when she got pregnant...so I thought I would keep one to share some of the experiences, photos, etc. of our time in Minneapolis. Plus, I figured this might be easier than having to send out mass emails all the time.

So basically, Michael and I will try to post here periodically with updates on places we go, things we see, and pictures of anything exciting...especially when it gets cold and starts snowing! So be sure to check back frequentently for updates!
