I actually found out I was pregnant the day before our 10th anniversary. We were getting ready for bed and I told Michael we should test just to see. When I took the test it was still a couple of days early but the second line showed up instantly. I literally did a double take because I couldn't believe my eyes. Michael kinda stood there with his mouth open for a while in total surprise. :D It's funny how as soon as you see that positive pregnancy test, your life is changed forever. And of course within minutes I had a huge realization and excitedly proclaimed to Michael, "We get to get a MINIVAN!!". :D (we had previously agreed that we would stick with my car for as long as we could still squish into it since we just paid it off earlier this year, hehe.)
Since I hadn't really found a good doctor up here yet, I went in a couple of weeks later for a consultation with a new doctor and really liked her. She seems like a good fit for us and is very kind and takes her time when meeting with you. After our Destin vacation, that Monday we went in for our official "pregnancy confirmation" appointment/ultrasound. There we saw our sweet baby's beating heart with a heartrate around 165bpm. No matter how many times I have seen these images, I still get teary seeing that heart beat when the baby is so tiny. I ended up having another ultrasound a few weeks later to double check on a couple of things and baby still looked great and you could tell just how much it had grown!
We had fun telling our families our big news. We had a great plan to tell our parents when we were all together in Temple but the weekend fell through. So luckily we were able to talk my parents into still coming down to our house for a quick overnight trip so we could tell them our news in person. We decided to do the whole trick where you take a picture and then instead of telling them to say cheese you say "Everyone say, 'Kyla's pregnant!'". My parents were holding the boys when we took the picture so it definitely took a few seconds for it to sink in to them what I said. My dad kept smiling and posing for the picture and then my mom's mouth and eyes kept opening wider and wider as she realized what we just said. So fun! I told my sister Kristina the same way when she was in town for a doctor appointment and we had met up with her and the kids at the Children's Museum one afternoon. Unfortunately I didn't get to tell my sister Katherine in person, but I did the next best thing and told her via Face Time so I at least got to see her face and reaction. :) Then we shared our news with Michael's family the first night we got to Destin....so it was a fun way to kick off the week!
My official due date is February 19 and I will have a C-section 1-2 weeks before that. And yep, that puts the delivery date VERY close to Andrew's birthday on February 14. I feel a little bad for the two of them since they will likely end up having birthdays just days apart, but we will figure all that out!
Joseph very much seems to understand what's going on. It's been so fun to experience the pregnancy through his little 3 year old mind so far. He has so many interesting questions that make me giggle including: "When baby comes out, baby have clothes on? Will baby have private parts?" Then just a couple of days ago he leaned back and pooched his stomach forward and said "When Mommy's tummy gets this big then baby come out?". And of course one day he decided to try to look down my shirt to try to find where the baby is inside my tummy. :)
I will be 15 weeks pregnant tomorrow. I still can't believe it in some ways! But my tummy is definitely growing! It started pooching out a bit around 9 weeks! I feel like over the past couple of weeks though that it has really grown and my shorts and shirts are getting less and less comfortable.
I am blessed in my pregnancies that I don't get morning sickness! For this pregnancy, I did get quite a puny stomach for many weeks...never nauseous at all, just puny. I think my main symptom has just been feeling SOOOO tired. It's getting a tiny better but I still fight the fatigue every day. Of course chasing two little guys doesn't really help. ;) I don't have major food cravings necessarily but more food aversions. I've always been a huge salad person and sandwich person. And now the thought of either is not appealing to me at all. ?? I actually have to look at menus in restaurants now to find something that sounds decent. And as with our other pregnancies, we really don't have a preference as to the gender. Really either way I think would be so fun. Obviously, we would love to experience a baby girl and all the new things that would come with that. But then on the other hand, how fun and crazy would it be to be the mom of 3 boys! And fun little buddies so close in age! So we will be thrilled either way! We should find out somewhere around the beginning of October.
