And the verdict is...

We had our appointment today!  We heard baby's heartbeat around 145-169 bpm - such a precious sound!  Then came the ultrasound...

Baby was kinda folded in half and had it's legs together, but after looking and looking the doctor said she is 90% sure that IT IS A.....

BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Michael and I are both so excited and we were just shocked!  For some reason, we were both thinking it may be a girl.  So we laughed with delight and excitement when she said boy!!!    It's going to be so fun!!!    How fun for our little guys to be 22 months apart and have a little playmate and friend to grow up with.   I can't wait to hold our sweet little baby boy in my arms and smother him with hugs and kisses!!    It's just so fun to know what we are expecting so I can start calling the baby a "him" instead of an "it".  And we've already started the name discussion!   Michael is pretty sure God gives us boys because that is what we have a harder time with name wise - haha!

Now of course, this isn't 100% for sure as of right now.  But the doctor did say she sees a bunch of "fullness" in between the legs - hehe.   It actually looked like a boy from my untrained eyes as well.  We will go in 2 weeks for our 20 week ultrasound where hopefully we will be able to get final confirmation that baby is a boy, but most importantly check on baby to make sure he is healthy and doing good!

Terrible Tuesday

Well I suppose that to truly reflect what goes on in our life, our blog must truly capture the good, bad, and the ugly.  And unfortunately, this story falls in the bad/ugly category.  Let's just say poor Joseph had his worst day injury wise that he has had so far.    :(

It all started this morning when I was getting ready for the day.  When I shower, I put Joseph in his exercauser to keep him contained and then when I am doing my hair and makeup I let him play in the bathroom where I am.  I had plugged my curling iron in to start warming up while I dried my hair.  Now I must say that so far I have been very diligent on making sure the curling iron is no where within reach.     Right now, Michael is in the process of adding shelves in our closet so our bathroom is all cluttered and our counter has stuff all over it.   I had a hard time finding a safe spot for the curling iron but finally found one and then I mistakenly left the cord sticking out some so that I didn't have to put the cord in the wet sink.   Oh if I could go back in time.

In the brief seconds that I flip my head over to dry the underneath part of my hair, my sweet Joseph apparently got a hold of the cord and pulled the curling iron off the counter.  I hear a shrill cry and look up to see him holding the curling iron and my heart literally sank past my stomach to my feet.  I dropped everything and instantly put his hand under cold water. I tried to find a way to apply ice to it, but I'm sure you can imagine how well that goes over with a 17 month old.  He calmed down some but just kept crying off and on.  It broke my heart.  And everytime he would see the curling iron again, he would start pointing and crying all over again.   I decided to go ahead and call the doctor since I noticed one blister already.  The doctor wanted to take a look at it to make sure it wasn't going to affect his joints so they set his appointment for 1:30.

I decided to go ahead and keep my playdate with Bridget at the mall to hopefully distract Joseph and it worked.    Well that is until a little kid pushed him off the bottom stair and he fell to the ground face first.   And then he tumbled down the little slide somehow.    Sigh...

We make our way to the doctor and I'm already frazzled for obvious reasons and I was 4 minutes late.  So we go in and Joseph is playing with this little chair and ends up falling and biting his tongue and his tongue starts bleeding a little.   So he cries and the whole office heard it.    When we opened up his hand to the doctor, I saw that Joseph didn't just have the one blister under his thumb but his fingers (especially his ring finger) were blistered up and down and all red.    The doctor prescribed him some cream to help with the healing as well possible infection.   We have to apply that twice a day and cover it with guaze so that he won't mess with it.

Later this afternoon while we were back home, we went to go check the mail like we do every day.  On the way back though, Joseph somehow tripped and fell head first onto the sidewalk and I just hear a super loud thud.   Again, heart sinking past my feet now.   I was literally standing right behind him but it just all happened so fast.    So now on top of his completely blistered hand, he has a huge knot on his forehead with a scratch on it which means a scab and all kind of colors of green/yellow in the days to come.    And did I mention he was only able to get a 30 minute nap today because of all the events of the day??  :\

This day has been so hard and I cried mulitple times just feeling like such a bad mom. So many people have said reassuring things to me, including the doctor.  It just makes me feel awful though because I just love Joseph so much and want to protect him from every little thing that could cause him the slightest bit of pain and I clearly failed today.   I know it's the first of many accidents to happen along the way, but boy this was a tough one.     Luckily though, our little trooper is acting just fine and he doesn't seem phased by his hand at all.

Oh, and then Michael told me what would top off the day - apparently he forgot to put on deodarant this morning and as he said "I spent all day at work trying not to sweat!".   Oh dear.   I suppose that humor this time of day is what I needed.

Please just say a prayer for my little guy as his sweet little hand heals up over the next few days.
Super blurry picture because I had to hurry and snap it and didn't have time to focus.  You can see some of the blisters though.  :(

Our little trooper all ready for bed with his bandaged hand and big scrape/bump on his forehead

Quick Update

Just a quick update that my appointment for this week got moved up a day.  Michael got asked at work to lead an important customer sales presentation for the first time - and wouldn't you figure it was the exact same time as our appointment.    So, I called and was able to grab the only remaining appointment for this week!  We'll go on Wednesday at 2:45.  It's at the doctor's other office location so I'm hoping she will still have time to take a peek on the ultrasound and hopefully see if she can tell what we are having.   So stay tuned!

Also, here is my first baby bump picture of this pregnancy at 17 1/2 weeks!  I'm starting to make the official conversion in maternity clothes as well!
