Michael's parents arrived last Tuesday and stayed thru Monday morning. It was such a great and long visit with them - I wish it didn't have to end when it did! Michael and I had to work on Wednesday so Faith & Jimmy spent the day on our walking trail and then headed to the arboretum right near our house.
We were both off Thursday & Friday - so it was great to have a 4 day weekend with them. We headed up to Walker, MN - about 3 hours away. At work, I recently met with a hotel rep from that area, so I was able to get us a free night stay in a 2 bedroom/2 bath condo! It was really nice!

Like father, like son. ;)
Sunset pic at the lakeFriday morning, we woke up and headed 35 miles west to Itasca State Park - head of the Mississippi headwaters! That's right the big ol' Mississippi starts right here in MN! It was actually a lot neater than I expected. The river basically runs off of this lake and there it starts! They have rocks across it where you can cross. After seeing Jimmy fall part of the way in the water as he was crossing the slimey rocks and seeing numerous other people totally fall, I decided to just be the photographer and keep my tennis shoes dry.

And here it is! Ta-da!After the headwaters, we did the 10 mile wilderness drive thru the state park. Despite getting attacked by a swarm of horseflies (that literally swarmed our car for 5 miles of the drive), it was a really nice drive. They had a big 8 story fire tower you can climb for a look out. Oh my was it scary! A great view from the top but quite nerve wracking on the way up and down - especially when you could feel it sway when the wind blew.

What was I thinking??
View from the topWe headed home Friday night. Saturday, Michael and his mom broke out their paints and drawing stuff and did art stuff all day. The that night, we went to Lake Minnetonka and took a dinner boat cruise. It was really fun! The boat was a mini yacht and was super nice. We had a good dinner and then enjoyed the 2 hour cruise around the lake.
