So not this weekend we just had but the one prior, it was quite the interesting Saturday night. I actually was with my friend Becky doing wedding stuff with her and one of the other bridesmaids, but Michael was here and told me all about it!
It was about 8:30pm Saturday and Michael was home from his golf day with Josh. He was watching tv and all of a sudden someone started ringing the door bell over and over. He ran downstairs and saw a police officer walking away on his way to the next house. Michael called out to him and the officer just yelled "Get out of your house - now!" Michael was like "Do what??" and the officer yelled "The unit next door is on fire, get out NOW!" So Michael ran back in to get shoes and ran to the computer to grab our flash drive that we have all our pictures backed up on. He told me after that he figured if somehow our unit caught fire, he wanted to at least save all our memories through the pictures we've taken. :*)
He got outside in the grassy area in the back yard and was talking to one of the neighbors. Michael finally then saw the smoke and told the neighbor that this must be the house on fire. Well turns out it was that guy's house! Our townhomes are in 3 homes/building. So we are on the right side of our unit. Well the one on fire was the unit to the left but the home on the right. (If that makes sense). Turns out the guy had thrown down a match below his deck out back on the rocks. For some dumb reason, he still had his Christmas tree laying down there and it caught part of the spark and instantly started on fire. So the fire instantly started spreading. The guy got his two kids out and then called 911. Apparently while they were having this conversation, they were still waiting for the firemen to get there. I'm still trying to figure out why the guy wasn't scrambling to find a water hose or something. ??
But luckily everyone was ok. Michael was able to sneak back into our house and got a comforter for the two kids to cover up with. (Our weather now is warm in the daytime but quite chilly once the sun sets and the kids were in shorts) So sweet of him and so thoughtful which is one of the reasons I adore my husband so much.
The guy apparently is renting like we are and didn't seem too worried and just kept making comments about how he was glad he was just renting and glad he had renter's insurance. I'm hoping he was just nervous or embarassed and that is why he was making dumb jokes like that because I have a feeling his landlords weren't too pleased. :P
Anyways, I was able to sneak over for a quick picture. It's not the best one but I was trying to not be too obvious. They apparently had a lot of smoke inside because there are restoration crews out there this second working in there. But as far as I know it didn't spread any further than this.
