So throughout the weekend, we did odds and ends. Michael put up a storm door on our back porch which will be great now that we can open the main door and have some fresh air come in through the screen door. All of our windows in the living room and kitchen area are one solid window and they don't open so it will be nice to have some way to get fresh air in the main rooms!
Monday afternoon, we decided to do something different and fun. We went to Brazos Bend State Park which is only about 30-35 minutes from our house. My friend Bridget had told me about it but we just hadn't gone yet. We were very impressed with just how big and nice of a park it is. It is known for its alligator population - yikes! And sure enough, we saw 2 alligators! One of the alligators we saw on the walk back and he was out of the water but right next to it. We were freaking out and weren't really sure what to do. So we put Joseph in the stroller (which he wasn't happy about) and tried to come up with a plan. But everytime we started to take a few steps or Joseph would keep babbling, the alligator would turn his head and look at us. Oh gosh, it was so scary but funny at the same time. Finally another group came and we walked by with them...figuring there was safety in numbers but I was just hoping the gator didn't look at me as a two for one deal! On the walk back to the car, we also saw 3 wild hogs on the other side of the lake!
There are tons of trees in the park with spanish moss hanging from them which just makes it so pretty and unique. There were great picnic areas, camping areas (no thanks with the gators and all), and lots of trails for walking and bike riding. We went part way down one of the trails and then came back. We definitely look forward to going back and spending more time there - but maybe in a few months when I'm up for a bit more walking!
Enough said!
Joseph had a blast walking down the trails! He kept having to stop and collect rocks - such a little boy!
Beautiful mossy trees
Our family of 3 1/2! :)
Michael got this super cool pic - there were all these huge birds on this big bare tree and the reflection off the water was identical because of how still the water was.
In front of one of the swampy areas
Michael in front of part of the lake
Joseph was so excited to see the lake
Another neat shot with a cloud reflection
One of the only ways we could get Joseph in the picture to look at the camera and smile!
Love!
