Don't worry - we are staying in Texas...and in Houston. We are moving to a different suburb within Houston. Even though we have only been in our house a couple of years and have enjoyed our house, we knew it wasn't our long term house and that we would want a place with a bigger yard for our boys to enjoy. We like our subdivision a lot and it has come along quite nicely, but the areas around our neighborhood are a little sketchy in parts.
We decided to talk with a realtor to just get the ball rolling so that when we were ready to buy then we would be good to go. However, we ended up finding a house that we really liked and its in a more established area that has really good schools too. Michael had been watching the postings for months and this was really the only one in our price range that fit the criteria we were wanting. We looked at it and decided to go for it. We certainly didn't plan to get the first house we looked at but that's just how it worked out! And we know interest rates are supposed to go up fairly soon and stay up so we didn't want to miss our opportunity.
The new house is a two story which I have always felt very against, with small kids. But, I think it will work out just fine. It will certainly take some adjustments but my favorite part of the two story is the nice sized playroom we gain upstairs where the boys' rooms are. It will be great to have more space for all their toys and more room for them to play! It's a brand new home too and never lived in which will be nice.
It's been a pretty rollercoaster experience. We had to frantically get our house on the market. It finally listed on a Sunday morning and that night after our first showing we had a full price offer. ?? We were freaking out and so excited! Well sure enough it was too good to be true and with 2 days left in his 10 day option period, all of a sudden he thinks he is "going to be relocated". Whatever. So another frantic cleaning to get the house back on the market. We had two more offers within 24 hours and finally accepted one the following day. So hopefully we will be good to go now.
We are looking at a possible Labor Day weekend move (happy birthday to me!). :) We don't have the exact date yet but for sure it will be before September 9. We have tons of packing to do (uggg) so I will try to post when I can. But in the meantime, here are a few pics I took of the new house. I'll post more once we actually get moved in.
