Sweet Moments

Before we had Joseph, I always loved seeing babies that other people had. And now that I have my own, it is neat to be on the other side of it and see how many people are drawn to the sweet face of a baby.

Everytime we go to church we always have so many people comment on him, stop us after mass, or touch him on their way back from communion. It makes me so proud and happy to see the joy that a child can bring to people - especially when it's my child. :)

Today I met my friend Becky for lunch at Panera Bread. I had Joseph in the stroller and we were waiting inside for Becky. On his way out, this little old man came over and just looked at him and talked to him. Joseph even gave him a couple of little smiles and the man was so happy. The entire time, the old man's wife was holding the door open for them to leave and he stood there for so long and just couldn't take his eyes off Joseph.

Later in the day, I went into Kinko's to fax something and the lady that works there was helping me and she started sharing her own story about when her baby was born by c-section and how the baby turned his head towards her when she talked. I'm pretty sure those were tears in her eyes when she was talking about it, and I knew just how she felt.

I could go on and on about all the conversations that I have with strangers now that I would have probably never encountered if it weren't for sweet Joseph.

Something else that I've been thinking about is how being with Joseph has forced me to experience certain situations different and gives me a really neat perspective. When we were at Michael's friend's wedding in Texas a few weeks ago, it was an outdoor wedding. It was super hot so I sat in the indoor area with Joseph which was directly behind the center aisle. I was really surprised by how neat it was to sit back there. I got to see how big of a smile the groom had on his face when his bride was walking towards him, something most people don't get to see because they stand and face the bride walking in. I just thought it was so sweet. That same trip, lots of Michael's family and grandparents came over for dinner that Sunday. I went to the bedroom to nurse Joseph and it brought a smile to my face to hear the whole dining room burst into laughter. I had no idea what was said, but it was just so nice to hear a family so happy and laughing together.

I know these are kind of random thoughts, but they are ones I'm thankful to have...
