Back to the Zoo

On May 1st, I went on our first big outing/playdate.  We went with Bridget and her girls back to the zoo - one of my favorite places to go!  We had a crazy cold front come in the night before, so it was crazy to be in long sleeves and jackets on May 1st!!

It was a gorgeous day but very windy.  Andrew started off pretty fussy in the stroller, so I put him in the baby bjorn and he went to sleep until we stopped for lunch!  Joseph loved the outing - I think we were both so glad to get out of the house for a change!

Joseph and Alexandra had so much fun together.  They actually stayed put in their strollers for quite a while for a change.  Then we got them out to let them stretch their legs and they had a blast running and playing together.  Joseph seemed a lot more interested in collecting sticks than he did the wildlife we were surrounded by!   I kept trying to get him to focus on the animals but then I just realized that he was having a blast with his little sticks and that is all that mattered.

I'm so glad we made it back to the zoo before the hot weather gets here.  I know it is one of many fun trips to the zoo we will have with both boys!
Just arrived at the zoo - my first big outing to use the double stroller!

All warm and cozy in the stroller for a little snooze

With Bridget, Alexandra and Victoria

Me and my boys at the flamingo exhibit

So hard to get them all to look at the same time

Finally out of the strollers!

Let the exploring begin!

Inside the reptile indoor exhibit - Joseph ran in with a handful of sticks and Alexandra had a little piece of tree limb - haha

They loved the fish!

Inside the little tunnel they can crawl through in the aquarium

Little bright eyes!

Andrew ~ 3 Months

Our little Andrew is now 3 months!  (ok 3 1/2 since I'm overdue on the blog entry)  His little personality has really started to shine lately and he has been giving us the sweetest smiles and coos!

The biggest update over the past month has been his weight gain issue.  We went back a few weeks ago for a weight check and he hadn't gained the minimum 1/2 oz a day like the doctor wanted him to.  :(  I was really surprised and sad about it...and mainly just worried about my little guy.  The doctor suggested we start the Prevacid to try to help acid reflux and she also suggested I eliminate dairy and soy from my diet because it sounded to her that based off his poopy diapers he could be having a reaction to something in my milk.

We started the Prevacid and didn't notice any difference.   In observing Andrew more and with the way he nurses, we both felt like he wasn't getting enough milk when he nurses.  It's become quite a stressful situation for both me and Andrew.  So I've started pumping and we began giving him 3 bottles of milk a day when possible.  Within a couple of days we noticed a big difference in him and he even started sleeping better at night.  We went for his weight check and he gained 6 oz where the dr wanted him to gain at least 4-5.   So he was at least back in the normal range.  So our next step is I will meet with a lactation consultant on Thursday for further guidance through our nursing issues and try to find ways to increase my milk supply for him.   The doctor also wants me to keep eliminating soy and dairy until we follow up again at his 4 month appt.   This has been a lot harder than I thought because I've never really had dietary restrictions but I am willing to do anything for my sweet Andrew.  So please say a little prayer that he can stay on track with his weight gain!

His sleeping has gotten better lately (knock on wood).  He goes down anywhere between 7:30 and 9 depending on the timing of his last nap.  He typically wakes around 2 or 3 and then again 5ish.  He also usually takes 4 naps a day, or maybe 5 depending on if it's a short nap day.

Andrew is rolling to his side more and more.  He has also started reaching for toys and really locks on to different pictures in books and little toys.  He is really close to laughing but we're still waiting for that first little giggle.  He also really follows voices and will move his head to watch you walk by.  He definitely notices his big brother too!  His neck is getting a lot stronger too.  He also loves to suck on his hand and fingers and recently figured out how to hold on to his feet when he is playing on his back.

He is wearing some 3 month clothes...some fit good and others are still really big.  He is starting to transition out of newborn diapers into size 1 (finally).   He is just so little!  ;)
