FMSC Gala

Last night, Michael and I went with some friends from church to the Feed My Starving Children fundraising gala. FMSC is a group that we have volunteered at several times to package dehydrated food bags for starving children in Haiti and Africa.

There were 9 of us total so we had a great turnout. There were 950 people total that attended! The event opened with a silent auction. Then we sat down and had dinner. They had the MN Boys Choir perform and then the guest speaker was a preacher from Zimbabwe. I almost felt guilty eating this nice dinner and not finishing it all because I was "so full" when we were watching all these slideshows of these children who are so malnourished and have nothing to eat.
It's so easy to take for granted the food we have to eat and the blessings we have. I even think about what a luxury it is to have a grocery store every other block where we all have our choice of any food we could ever want. So this event was good to just help me realize how fortunate we are and that hopefully our contribution for attending the fundraiser will be able to feed quite a few children.

We did have a great time at the event - and for such a wonderful cause! It was fun to get all dressed up too because it's been a while since we've done that. Here are our pics:

Timberwolves

Last night we went to the Timberwolves game with Heather and Jim, and Jim's parents. Jim's dad's company is a sponsor of the team, so they get lots of free tickets - in REALLY good seats!

We were totally on row G, so they were GREAT. We were a little to the right of the center court mark. Then at half time, we were able to go with the others (since they had a higher level seats than us) to the special "Lexus Club". They serve free alcohol and you basically have to walk thru the tunnel the players come out of to get to it. So neat. We missed pretty much the whole 3rd quarter, but it was fun to be back there. And on the way back we walked right behind the players who were sitting. I could have bopped one on the head if I wanted to! Ok, maybe with the cop staring at me it wouldn't have been a good idea, but you get my point. We were THAT close! :)

We played the Boston Celtics. It was a really close game the entire night, but unfortunately we lost by 2 points because of a crappy call in the last 10 seconds. It was funny being to a new team's game. They are all about the "wolves" theme. Their mascot is a little furry wolf that runs around (a person in a costume, not a real one, haha). Then when the other team shoots a free throw, they put the picture of the wolf up and it howls. Then the entire arena howls too! And yes, I howled a couple of time for funsies. :) Here are some pics from the game:

November

Can you believe it's already November?! Oy!

Well so far November is off to a decent start. The weather has warmed back up to upper 40s with 50s and one 60 degree day in the 7 day forecast. All the pretty leaves are gone though and the trees are bare. Bummer.

We had a fun weekend with friends this past weekend. Friday night we went to dinner and a movie with Josh & Julie. We saw the Informant with Matt Damon. It's actually based on a true story about the company ADM - which is probably Cargill's largest competitor...so that was quite interesting. But the movie itself was ok - a little wierd.

Sat night we had dinner with Becky & Brendan. Sunday, we went to early church because we both woke up early because of the time change. (Ug, I HATE setting the clocks back!) Then our friend Kate had a Vikings football party at her place. It was really fun and we got to see a lot of our friends from our church group. As my friend Becky put it, "for not being a huge football person, you sure do go to a lot of football events!" So true. But as long as there are friends and food there, I'll be there! hehe

And tomorrow night will be a big night! We are going to the Timberwolves basketball game and that will mean I have been to a game of every major sports team here! (Even Michael can't say that since he hasn't been to a hockey game yet, hehe). Pretty good for someone who would rather be at a musical huh?
