It's Time to Potty

When I was pregnant with Joseph, I was so excited about all the fun moments that would come with having a little one.  Having said that, there have been 3 things that I have always dreaded about having a child: working through sleep issues, potty training, and then when they start losing teeth (gives me the heeby jeebies).

We've wondered for a while now if Joseph was ready for potty training.  He was always good about going potty before his bath at night and did it with no problem.  He then got to the point where he would tell us as he was going to the bathroom in his diaper.   But then we moved and I didn't want to mess with it and then by the time we were settled the holidays were here.   So finally at the end of January I bit the bullet and decided to start potty training to see how he would do and if he was officially ready.

And to my surprise, he was ready!  I put him in underwear with no pants and we stayed around the house for the most part for about a week.  I set the timer for between 10-15 minutes and would have him go sit on the potty.  And probably 80% of the time, he would go.  Now #2 was another story, and quite a mess to clean up out of undies.  But surprisingly, he became interested in sitting on the potty for #2 but couldn't ever go.  After about a day and a half it finally happened and from there on out he has been great with it.

I was surprised that he actually mastered the #2 before #1 since I heard that is the harder one to master.  But soon after he finally started getting more upset when he would wet him undies.  It took about a couple of weeks before he would finally start telling me when he needed to go to the bathroom.

Our next challenge was how to get him to go on a big potty when we were out and about.  I found a little fold up potty seat that sits on top of a regular toliet seat that is for on-the-go so I got it and it worked out perfect!  And apparently it is super exciting to go to the bathroom in stores and restaurants so we end up going multiple times in each store.  Ug.

So anyways, I'm so proud of Joseph and how well he has done with potty training!  He still wears a pull up during nap time and at night but he is doing great during the day.  I'm starting to get my nerve up to putting him in real underwear when we go out and about on our errands.  So today, he was in undies all day including our trip to the mall and even later when we went to Ash Wednesday service at church and stayed all dry!  And a couple of weeks ago, we mastered the art of standing up to potty.  :)

It's been an interesting experience and a learning time for both of us!  Obviously I'm not going to put true action shot pictures, but I had to take a few pics of his first day in real undies.  He was quite excited!

Andrew is walking!

Andrew is officially a walker now!  It literally was like as soon as he had his first birthday party, that next week he just decided to start walking!   He now definitely prefers it over crawling.  And if he falls down, he will crawl over to something so he can pull himself back up and keep on walking!

He has so fun doing it and it's really neat to see him explore things in a new way!  Below is a little video I took last week of him walking.  It's so cute...for some reason every evening he does this little routine where he will walk all through the living room (on our new carpet!) back and forth from me to Joseph's chair by the windows.
