Well, 39 weeks and 3 days...and still waiting. :)
I had my appointment on Thursday and still no progress. If I was dilated at all, the doctor was going to do a little thing called "stripping the membranes" which can sometimes help trigger labor. But unfortunately, I wasn't dilated the slightest bit so that was no longer an option.
It was my first time with this new doctor and I have to say that I really liked her. She was considering inducing me on my due date, but after consulting with a couple of her other partners, they decided to let me go past my due date if it comes to that. Ug. She said basically that when you induce when no progress has been made yet, then it greatly increases the chances of needing a c-section which they are greatly trying to avoid...and I appreciate that. I just prayed that God would guide them to make the right decision about the induction, so I have to trust that they know what they are doing.
Luckily, she said they wouldn't let me go longer than 41 weeks which would be April 20. She said it's very hard when dealing with this kind of uncertainty. The baby could be big and I could deliver him just fine or he may be way smaller than expected because the ultrasounds aren't super accurate. And until I'm actually in labor, there's just no way to know how things will go or whether I will end up needing a c-section or not (regardless of the size of the baby).
I feel good - just feel pretty big seeing as I'm almost 40 weeks pregnant. :P I get comments from strangers daily wondering when my due date is, or people pointing out a place for me to sit down in the restaurant waiting area (super nice) and even a random guy in the doctor's office wanting a shot at guessing the sex of the baby - hahaha. My right foot has started swelling pretty bad too which causes me to almost limp around the house. So I've been trying to keep it elevated when I can.
It's safe to say that I feel very anxious about what is to come in the next week or two (or possibly days), but I'm trying hard to just take it day by day and enjoy every remaining moment of having my precious little guy inside my belly. Michael and I have been dreaming about him like crazy lately and we anxiously await the day we get to hold our precious baby in our arms!

38 Week Pictures
Today we went for one last ultrasound to check on baby's size. A couple of months ago, I started measuring a little big when they would measure my tummy. At first my amniotic fluid level was high but that has since leveled out. So, now they think that baby is just a little big.
The ultrasound today went great. He looked good and we got to see his sweet face and body one more time by ultrasound before we meet him in person. The past couple of ultrasounds, he has always had one arm up above his head with his hand by his face. Michael sleeps in a similar position which is funny, so we are eager to see if baby Joseph will sleep like that when he comes out too! Today he had his one arm up by his face and the other hand he was using to hold on to his foot. :) He was doing it at the beginning of the ultrasound and when she checked it at the end he was doing it again. It was so sweet that I have to admit it brought a little tear to my eye. I saw his little hand on the picture and I began thinking about holding that little hand in the next week or two when he is here in person. I'm really hoping and praying that he will be born sometime in the next few days so that he doesn't get TOO big in there. With all the measurements today, they estimate him to be a little over 9lbs, but they also say the estimate can be off by 1 lb 6 oz either way so I'm trying to not get too caught up in that number. It is out of our hands and we will just see what happens and when!
Today was also my first day to not be at work - and boy was it nice! After the ultrasound at 9:00, I went by Target and it was so fun to get in and out with only 10 other cars in the parking lot! I had some nice relaxing tv time but also got a lot done around the house.
Tomorrow I am going to the mall with my friend Heather and her baby James (Joseph's future BFF that will only be about 3 months older than him, hehe). Maybe being active and browsing around the mall for a couple of hours will help get things going.....a mom-to-be can hope! :)
