Houston Livestock Show

Every March, Houston has a huge Rodeo & Livestock Show.  The Reliant Arena is full of animals that kids from all over the state come to have judged and compete for best in show.  Then at night in Reliant Center, there is the actual rodeo followed by a concert by a big star.  It really is such a fun event!

I didn't get to go last year because Andrew was a newborn at the time.  The year before though I had gone with Bridget when Joseph was not even a year old.   So this year, we went on a Saturday so that we could go as a family.  We knew there was a chance of rain but figured it would be a brief shower (wrong).

After walking practically a mile from the parking lot to the arena (with the double stroller, oy!), we made it inside where all the animals were.  We saw the chickens, turkeys, cows, etc.  I thought Joseph would be super into it but he wasn't too interested at first.  But then we found the more hands on things in the front of the arena and he really enjoyed that stuff.  Andrew of course just wanted to walk everywhere which is not easy with gobs of people everywhere who don't know to look at their knees to see who might be walking by!  ;)

We went for lunch at the BBQ tents outside and it was raining.  We were lucky a table opened up just in time as we got our food.  And while we were eating it just kept raining and raining.  After lunch we went back into the arena to look around a bit more but it was just so crowded since all the carnival people flocked inside that we decided to call it a day and head home.  It was a bummer that we didn't get to do the childrens farmer's area and some of the outdoor stuff because of the rain, but I'm just glad we were able to go together and have a fun family day!
