The Plans are Set!

Let the countdown to vacation begin!

We've been toying around with vacation ideas for a while, but we finally figured out where to go and when. We will be going to Cancun, May 23-29! We've been to Cozumel and Playa del Carmen for day trips while on our cruises before, but we've never actually vacationed in Mexico so we are looking forward to it!

I'm also realizing some of the perks my new job has. The first two nights we are in Cancun, we will be staying at the Fiesta Americana Grand Coral Beach - apparently on one of the nicest beaches in Cancun. My group at work has worked with this hotel on booking meetings there before, so they got me in touch with the hotel rep for that property. I just heard back from him today and he got us a reduced rate for both nights AND as long as there is availability when we check in, we will get a complimentary upgrade to an ocean front master suite! He said there are 80 of these rooms on property, so it shouldn't be hard for us to get an upgrade. In exchange for the industry rate and upgrade, we will just go on a site tour of the hotel - check out the meeting space for the Cargill groups, etc. Not too bad of a deal!

Then, we will walk next door to the Riu Palace Las Americas to spend our last 4 nights. It is an all inclusive hotel which has all the food, drinks, water sports, entertainment included. We always like all inclusive because it is nice not to have to worry about prices and stuff while you're there. Plus, it's nice with all the activities they have there so you stay entertained all day and night.

Note: Yes, we are aware of the violence in Mexico. Don't worry...we checked into this and the violence is really just along the border towns and the officials are taking extra precautions to keep the tourist towns safe. Plus, we won't be going out for nights on the town or anything and will just stay safe in our little hotels.

One of my coworkers (native Minnesotan) told me the other day "Now you know it's going to be really hot and humid in Mexico in May!" My response was - oh yeah, I'm ready for it! Bring on the heat!!!! :)

It's fun that it isn't too far away that we have to wait. Although that means we only have ONE month to get bathing suit ready! Eek! And believe you me, I am an awful shade of pasty white after 6 freaking months of winter! :)

This will also be a special trip for us because it will be just a couple of weeks before our 5th wedding anniversary! Can you believe it?! We were already getting the itch for another vacation and I was wanting to do something special for our 5th anni, so it works out perfect!

Cancun here we come!
