Room Redo

We recently purchased a new kitchen table.  It was quite the ordeal because at first we ordered one from a local place here in Richmond.   Then after waiting 2 weeks for it to arrive, we got a call that they could no longer get the table because it was discontinued.  Ug!

So, we looked at pretty much every major furniture chain in the Houston area and just couldn't find what we were looking for.   So we started looking online and found a table just like what we wanted.   We decided to take our chances and order it online without seeing it first in person.   The ordering process went very smoothly.   Because they ship it from the manufacturer, it ships as freight and arrives at your house on a big wooden pallet.  Then you are supposed to inspect the boxes for potential damage, etc.    Well, the boxes arrived and it was a disaster!   They were torn and ripped all over all the way down to the stirofoam.  There was even a footprint on the top of one of them.  So, I had to refuse the shipment.   Ug....again!

Next, the company sent us a new table and it arrived in much better condition!  There were a couple of small knicks, but we decided to just live with it and turn that side towards the wall.  :)    Michael and I put it together ourselves and now we have a new kitchen table - finally!

Afterwards, we realized we didn't know what we were going to do with our old table!  So, I called our church and asked if there was a way we could donate it to a needy family and they said they actually had a refugee family that was in need of a kitchen table.    So, Michael took it this past Saturday and the lady from the church said that the family was so happy and excited to be receiving the new table.

Now, I know it's silly to get sentimental over a kitchen table, but I have to say it was kinda sad saying goodbye to our table.   That kitchen table was one of our very first purchases as a young married couple.  It did so well for us and moved with us to 4 different homes over the past 7 1/2 years.  It hosted many a yummy dinners and super fun game nights with family and friends.  So we said a prayer for the family that would be receiving it and off it went to its new family!     It makes me happy that it will be put to good use by someone that really needs it!

Here is our breakfast area in the before shot (the table has 4 chairs but we were using one as a baby gate, haha)

And AFTER!   Our new counter height table, new ficus tree in the corner, and brand new light fixture up above
Also, we've started to use the dining room as a playroom now!  It gives us some good space to put more of Joseph's toys so now he has a couple of different rooms to play in!

Oh your dining room looks great. Love the new table, the light fixture and the tree. It really looks so different.

And wow- the play room is coming right along. Just a perfect room to help store some of the toys. As mobile as he is, I'm sure he will love having toys in every room! Funs!

Love the table! I get oddly sentimental about weird stuff, too. And isn't it crazy how much room kids' toys take up?!

Love your new table and chairs! We did have some fun nights around your old table. One of my favorites was last years fish fry w/sweet potato fries.
Can't wait to come down and make some new memories. ;)
